Gorakhpur schools to remain closed till July 6 due to heavy rains; list of states with red alert

Gorakhpur schools from classes 1 to 8 will remain closed from July 4 to July 6 amid forecast of thunderstorms and heavy rain.
NEW DELHI: In view of the heavy rainfall, DM Gorakhpur Krishna Karunesh has issued a notification to close all schools up to Class 8 till July 6. According to the official notification of the District Administration and Disaster Department, there is a forecast of thunderstorms and heavy rain for the next three days.
Considering this, DM declared holiday in schools. The city recorded 128 mm of rainfall two days and there is also a possibility of torrential rain and thunder and lightning in these areas in the next two days. The Meteorological Department has recorded 74 mm of rain till Wednesday morning.
Keeping in mind the interests of the students, District Magistrate Gorakhpur has issued orders to close all the schools from classes 1 to 8 from July 4 to July 6. Strict action will be taken against those who violate this.
Red alert issued in other states
Uttarakhand Government has announced holiday in Kumaon districts amid the heavy rains in the state .
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department, IMD has issued red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in several states of India. Apart from Uttarakhand, red alert has also been issued in Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Gujarat, Assam, and Meghalaya. Even several parts of Delhi NCR is witnessing heavy rainfall.
Rainfall Warning in North Eastern States
The IMD statement released on July 1 forecasted heavy rainfall in several areas from July 2 to July 5. These regions include Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, and West Madhya Pradesh. On July 5, heavy rainfall is expected in West Rajasthan, while East Madhya Pradesh should expect it on July 3 and July 4, and Chhattisgarh on July 2 and July 3.
