NEW DELHI: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed the Rajya Sabha today that the government will establish 5 regional-centres of Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Veda Sanskrit Shikhsha Board (MSRVSSB) to promote the formal system of Vedic education.

“Apart from Maharishi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Vidya Pratishthan in Ujjain, five sub-centres of Maharishi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Vidya Pratishthan are being started in Char Dham and Maa Kamakhya Devi Peeth in the north-east to promote Ved Vidya,” he said.

Earlier, there was no formal system of Vedic education in the country. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the government established Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Veda Sanskrit Shiksha Board (MSRVSSB) on August 8, 2022.

In addition to the board set up in Ujjain, five more regional centres have been planned in the north-east.

“Currently, there are 123 pathshalas across the country where 4,600 students are studying and these have 632 teachers. In 258 Guru Shishya Parampara Units, there are 2,240 students and 430 teachers,” the minister said.

Additionally, there are 6 Rashtriya Adarsh Veda Vidyalaya in 6 states - Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Assam, Karnataka and Uttarakhand, he said.

On October 4, 2022, Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the second Rashtriya Adarsh Veda Vidyalaya (RAVV) in Puri, with the objective of spreading knowledge of the Vedas among people. The first RAVV was set up in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain.

“Besides courses on the four Vedas -- Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda and Atharvaveda – students will get a chance to opt for science, English, mathematics, Vedic mathematics, social science, computer science and agriculture as part of the curriculum,” he had said.
