Govt. to offer 10 Joint Secretary level posts via lateral entry

NEW DELHI, JUNE 12: In a first, the Government has opened doors for talented and motivated Indian nationals willing to contribute towards nation building to join the Government at joint secretary level posts via lateral hiring. The move comes with a view to infuse domain expertise in the key departments. For recruiting candidates with expertise in different fields, the Department of Personnel and Training has invited applications, which can be filled from June 15, to July 30, 2018 (till 5 pm).

Any candidate (who’s an Indian national) is eligible to apply given the candidate has at least 15 years of experience in his/her respective domains, reached a minimum age of 40 as on July 1, 2018 and has a graduate degree from a recognized University/Institute.

As per an official announcement by the Department of Personnel and Training, “The Government is looking for ten (10) outstanding individuals with expertise in the areas of Revenue, Financial Services, Economic Affairs, Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers’ Welfare, Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Environment, Forests and Climate Change, New & Renewable Energy, Civil Aviation and Commerce.”

A report by The Economic Times quoted the Government, which reads, “This “lateral entry” exercise is aimed at bringing in fresh ideas and new approaches to governance and also to augment manpower.”

This is for the first time that such higher positions in the Government are being offered through lateral hiring, whereas so far, the entry gate to these positions would be Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam.

Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for a personal interaction with the Selection Committee. Initially, selected candidates will be hired at the joint secretary level position in different departments for a period of 3 years, however, depending on the performance of the individuals, this contract can be extended to 5 years.

The candidates will be recruited at the pay scale of Rs.1,44,200 to 2,18,200 per month (Level 14 of Pay Matrix). In addition to this, the selected candidates shall be eligible for all allowances and facilities, etc as applicable to the equivalent level in the Government of India.
