NEW DELHI, APRIL 23: The state entrance exam for admissions to the undergraduate engineering programmes in Gujarat has commenced. Conducted by Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) in the offline mode, GUJCET  2018 is being held at various exam centres in 34 cities across the state. 

Candidates have to attempt two papers in all – Paper 1 which is for Physics & Chemistry for 120 minutes i.e. 2 hours and is being conducted from 10 am to 12 noon while Paper 2 is for Mathematics which is for 60 minutes i.e. 1 hour and will be conducted from 3 to 4 pm. For candidates, who have chosen to appear in Biology, the exam is from 1 to 2 pm. 

The exam is being conducted in Hindi, Gujarati and English languages for 120 questions of 1 mark each. That means the questions are for 120 marks in total. The 3 hours long exam has questions in multiple choice format from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; 40 in each subject. 

The marking scheme of the paper includes negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer, whereas, 1 mark will be allotted for every correct answer.

GUJCET is a state level exam allowing admission to candidates at over 112 participating engineering institutes. The seats in various engineering programmes will be offered by these institutes to only those candidates who will qualify in the entrance test.

As per the GSEB announcement, out of the 136498 candidates registered for Physics and Chemistry only 134, 979 candidates appeared for the exam. Similarly out of the 14,048 registered candidates for Biology, only 13,171 appeared for the exam. For Maths - 62,761 had registered while 61, 981 candidates actually appeared for the exam.

The result of GUJCET 2018 is scheduled to be announced in online mode in the fourth week of April tentatively. Candidates will be able to download their marksheets along with their GUJCET result. To check the result, candidates will have to enter their application number and registered application name. Only the qualified candidates will be able to participate in the counselling procedure to be conducted by Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) from April 26.
