Gurugram schools suspend physical classes up to Class 12 till November 25 due to poor air quality

NEW DELHI: Gurugram schools have suspended all physical classes for students up to Class 12 in government and private schools due to the severe Air Quality Index (AQI). As per the directive from the directorate of secondary education, Haryana, all government and private schools in Gurugram district will remain suspended till November 25, 2024.

“As the Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in almost all Urban & Rural parts of district Gurugram is in a severe category, therefore, in the interest of the health and safety of the children, it has been decided that in continuation of order no. 5483-86 dated 18.11.2024 of this office, all physical classes for students up to Class 12th will remain discontinued till 25.11.2024 in all areas (urban as well as rural) of District Gurugram,” the official order read.

Online classes will continue as scheduled for students instead of physical classes, in all government and private schools in the district. Earlier, the Haryana government temporarily closed schools up to Class 5 due to rising pollution levels in Delhi and the NCR.

“This decision prioritizes the health and safety of children as per guidelines from the Directorate of Secondary Education, Haryana. Stay safe and take necessary precautions!,” the DC Gurugram official post on X read.

Noida and Greater Noida schools have extended the suspension of physical classes in all institutions until November 25, 2024, due to the ongoing poor air quality in the region. The district administration had initially suspended physical classes last week in response to the harmful levels of air pollution.
