CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has approved a budget of Rs 747 crore for the financial year 2026-27 under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman scheme to provide nutritious food to schoolchildren across the state, officials said on Friday.

Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi chaired a meeting of the state level steering-cum-monitoring committee, which approved Rs 747 crore for FY 2026-27 under the PM POSHAN scheme, including a Central share of Rs 222 crore, and a state share of Rs 525 crore, an official statement said.

The meeting reviewed the programme's present implementation status, financial performance, and roadmap for the year ahead. Director of Elementary Education, Manita Malik, told the meeting that the scheme proposes to cover more than 14.8 lakh children – from pre-school to upper primary – in FY27.

The committee reviewed the meal menu and nutritional interventions being provided to students, which include supplementary items such as milk, protein-based food products, peanut 'pinni', and 'kheer'. The chief secretary called for strict adherence to quality, hygiene and nutritional standards, leaving no room for compromise in the delivery of meals.

He stressed the need for regular inspections and feedback collection to ensure that the meals are nutritious, palatable, and served to the required standards. The meeting also deliberated on the measures to enhance efficiency in fund utilisation and timely release of instalments.
