Haryana MBBS Bond Policy: RDA warns to withdraw all OPD services for indefinite period

NEW DELHI: Resident Doctors Association (RDA) has warned to withdraw all OPD services for an indefinite period in solidarity with the Haryana MBBS students protesting against bond policy if the officials did not give a “concrete response” by tomorrow . The medical students have been protesting over a period of three weeks against the Rs 10 lakh bond policy for taking admission in government medical colleges.

“After multiple meetings with the delegations, no satisfactory response was given to the students. Hence to show support to these students and to restore their spirits, it was decided that RDA would stage a symbolic protest by organizing pen down on November 19 and November 21(one hour and 2 hour respectively),” the doctors association said.

In a letter addressing to the director of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) Rohtak, the RDA said: “Until this hour no positive response has been given by the government and the competent authorities and so it is decided that the same pen down will be observed tomorrow (November 22 from 11 AM to 2 PM).”

It further said that if the officials did not give any “concrete response then we will be escalating the protest by withdrawing all the OPD services for an indefinite period of time”.

On November 2, Haryana chief minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, announced that the students taking MBBS admission in government medical colleges need not pay a bond amount of Rs 10 lakh. Coming in support of the students, the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) called for a nationwide black ribbon protest on November 7 against brutality towards Haryana MBBS students.
