Haryana govt orders demolition of 2,814 unsafe buildings following CJP’s ‘school thik karo’ push

Haryana government has directed demolition of 2,814 unsafe school structures and the shifting of students to nearby safe facilities in the meantime. The move comes after a youth-led group, Cockroach Janta Party, began its 'School Thik Karo' campaign highlighting the condition of government schools across the country.

The state government has directed officials to complete physical verification, formal condemnation, and demolition of all unsafe school buildings by 30 September, as per The Print report.

Last week, officials held a video conference with all deputy commissioners, district education officers and district elementary education officers ahead of a high-level review meeting expected to be chaired by chief minister Nayab Singh Saini.

Those who are unable to complete their process or fail to use the budget will face action. The department has also planned to replace the demolished structures with multi-storey vertical school buildings, aiming to free up land for playgrounds in schools, the media report added.

Officials have also clarified that in some cases, the entire school building need not be demolished, but only a few old and rundown buildings for students' safety.

New structure for Haryana school buildings

However, general public has been debating online that the move to improve the schools’ structure was taken long ago by CM Saini.

Earlier in June 2026, the CM had directed the construction of new buildings in place of dilapidated structures in all government schools across the state.

He also added that schools should be constructed in a vertical manner so that the remaining land can be utilized as playgrounds for students. CM had directed that at the end of the summer vacation, no classes should be held in ‘unsafe or dilapidated school buildings.’

Seasonal waterlogging issues in schools

Additionally, officials have flagged the waterlogging issues in government schools during the review meeting. They pointed out that 647 schools face seasonal waterlogging and 53 schools have a permanent waterlogging issue, The Print report added.

The district education officers have been directed to prepare a new budget estimate for earth-filling material and send it to senior officials so that funds for the waterlogging issues can be sanctioned by the government separately, the media report added.

Noida schools shut after inspection, claims CJP

CJP has been running a campaign to fix government schools in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and other states across the country.

As part of the campaign, CJP member Saurav Das has visited government schools in Noida today. However, the CJP spokesperson has claimed that after inspecting one of the schools, all government schools in Gautam Buddha Nagar have been directed to be closed immediately.

There’s no official announcement by the government regarding school closure.
