NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 17: The Heritage Group of Schools conducted its first ‘Ekal Vidyalaya Teacher Training Workshop’, this week in Delhi NCR, for teachers from rural and tribal villages of India. Ekal Vidyalaya are single-teacher schools, operating on the premise of ‘Ek Shikshak, Ek Vidyalaya’ meaning ‘one teacher for every school’, designed to take education to every child in India. These schools are established by the Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation, a non-profit organization involved in education and village development in the remotest rural & tribal villages of India.

Commenting on the significance of the workshop, Nishchint Chawla, Director, The Heritage Group of Schools said, “In a country like ours, with many ‘one teacher’ schools, it is imperative for private schools to share their experience and enhance the capacity of the teachers who are working at the grassroot level. Partnerships such as this will enable us to move one step closer each day towards our goal of universal primary education. Hence the teacher training programme for the teachers of Ekal Vidyalaya was a critical initiative for us at the Heritage School and the past 3 days have been a tremendous learning experience for our teachers as well as theirs.”

Sharing his views at the conclusion ceremony of the workshop, Ekal Teacher, Shyam Menariya from Rajasthan said, “I will never forget this experience. If we can meet in more such workshops where we can think and collaborate together, we will be able to teach our children better.”

As a part of this plan, 30 Ekal teachers from Rajasthan and 5 members of the leadership team were invited for a 3-day teacher training workshop. As part of the workshop, Ekal teachers observed classrooms at the Heritage Xperiential Learning School, Gurugram and attended a training session conducted by teachers of The Heritage School, Rohini. The workshop focused on helping the Ekal teachers experience the use of different classroom management tools and teaching strategies to engage students in the learning process.
