Hire faculty from interdisciplinary emerging technologies also: AICTE

NEW DELHI: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has asked technical institutions to abide by its regulations in the recruitment of teachers at various faculty positions.
The council has also asked institutions to consider postgraduate degrees in “interdisciplinary emerging technologies” while recruiting for more conventional departments.
For instance, the AICTE has asked engineering colleges to consider a degree in ‘VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration) Design’ relevant for computer science and engineering, and an M.Tech. in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information for civil engineering.
Getting rejected
The council’s February 28 public notice says that it has noticed “that the relevant/appropriate branch of degree in engineering/ technology is not being considered by the technical institutions for recruitment to teaching positions keeping in view interdisciplinary emerging technologies”. “As a result,” it continues, “The qualified persons suitable for recruitment to faculty position are deprived of the opportunity as their applications are rejected by the concerned technical institutions.”
The AICTE has asked the institutions to follow the regulations in the April 208, 2014 notification “in letter and spirit”. Thee gazette notification contains a list of relevant or appropriate nomenclature but that is “illustrative only and not conclusive”.
