How has COVID-19 affected your higher education plans?
NEW DELHI: The coronavirus outbreak has wreaked havoc on education.
Even before the government enforced social distancing through a nationwide lockdown from March 25, schools and colleges had started shutting down. They suspended classes, exams and all other academic activities and vacated the campuses. The lockdown was extended twice and the latest deadline is May 17.
While this has disrupted the academic plans of thousands, it has been especially disastrous for students who were set join higher studies this year.
Coverage of the COVID-19 spread has already pointed out the economic hardships caused by the outbreak and ensuing lockdown. They have impacted students and teachers as well. State governments and higher education regulatory bodies such as the All India Council for Technical Education, or AICTE, have had to take steps to ensure private institutions don’t increase fees in 2020-21. Many private schools, facing the cash-crush or claiming to, have stopped paying teachers creating yet another group that is suffering financially due to the lockdown.
We wanted to know how this situation has affected students at an individual level. What plans have been shelved because they are no longer affordable? Which dreams have been set aside because they require relocation? How is the COVID-19 pandemic altering your higher education plans?
We are conducting a short survey to understand how COVID-19 will impact student plans. It will take only a few minutes to complete. To begin, click HERE.
