NEW DELHI: The Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has directed the Central Board of Secondary Education.(CBSE) to promote all the students of Classes 1 to 8 to the next class based on internal assessments held in schools.
In his tweet, he further advised that “students of class 9 and class 11 be promoted to the next class based on the school-based assessments including projects, periodic tests, term exams, etc. conducted so far.”
He said that students who are not promoted based on school-based assessments can appear in tests that may be conducted by the schools in online or offline mode, when possible under COVID-19 lockdown situation. Incidentally, the board conducts public exams for secondary school only and typically has little control over policy decisions for junior classes. Technically, for Classes 1 to 8, state government decisions will apply.
CBSE had postponed all examinations as schools were ordered to shut down amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
