India-Pakistan Conflict: Union external affairs minster S Jaishankar said that India and Pakistan today, have worked out an understandingon stoppage of firing and military action, as reported by PTI.
Delhi has been placed on high alert, with cancellation of leaves for all government employees. HPTU has postponed HPCET 2025 while COMEDK UGET 2025 has been deferred in 12 cities. Schools are shut in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Chandigarh.
Panjab University has cancelled all exams scheduled on May 9 and 10. The Jammu and Kashmir State Eligibility Test (JKSET) and Ladakh SET exams have also been deferred till further orders.
With schools, colleges, and universities shutting down in border states, the situation of students is grim. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has postponed the Chartered Accountants Final (CA Final) and Intermediate (CA Intermediate) exams scheduled to be held from May 9 to May 14.
Earlier, the ICAI cancelled the CA exams 2025 in 12 cities - Chandigarh, Bhuj, Jammu, Srinagar Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Pathankot, Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Sri Ganga Nagar.
Several state governments have started implementing stringent measures amid the escalating tensions. All schools in six border districts of Punjab – Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, and Gurdaspur have been closed.
A blackout has been instituted in western Rajasthan from 9 pm to 4 am, and schools in five bordering districts have been ordered to be shut. The Rajasthan government has instructed all government and private schools in these five districts - Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Barmer - to remain closed as precautionary measures.
A high alert was sounded in Delhi on Thursday evening, and all city government employees' leaves were cancelled as hostilities ramped up between India and Pakistan, with several border areas, including Jammu, coming under cross-border shelling.
The Pakistani military last night tried to target Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. The attempts were foiled, and a Pakistani air defence system was destroyed in Lahore. "All DCPs are actively monitoring law and order in their areas. They have already briefed their officers like ACPs and SHOs. DCPs are personally monitoring their area and Delhi Police is ready to deal with any kind of situation," as per the PTI report.

The Press Trust of India (PTI) has reported that India has backed its action regarding the Indus Waters Treaty and said: "India's punitive measures against Pakistan including putting the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance following the Pahalgam terror attack will remain in place, government sources said on Saturday. The clarification came after India and Pakistan worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military actions, ending days of hostilities between their militaries. India's measures announced against Pakistan on April 23 will remain effective, the sources said."

As per the report by the Press Trust of India, three drones were neutralised by security forces in Kashmir today as Pakistan attempted to hit vital installations in the valley, an official said.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has launched helpline numbers to assist students in returning home and advised them to reach out to the education and transport departments for help amid the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict.
Posting a list of helpline numbers on her official X account, Sakina Itoo, education minister of Jammu and Kashmir, wrote: “The Govt of J&K has established dedicated helplines to assist students. Students from J&K studying outside who need to return home are advised to contact officials from the School Education and Transport Departments of the Jammu Division.”

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Pakistan will face consequences for targeting and killing civilians, including school children. He expressed concern over the deaths of two 12-year-old school children in Poonch, who were killed in Pakistani shelling. Pradhan condemned the attack, stating that no amount of condemnation can address the violation of basic norms of civility and humanity.
"Extend my deepest condolences to the family of Zoya and Zain. Also salute the spirit, bravery and resilience of our citizens along the international border. India stands together in this hour," he posted on X.

Several private schools in West Bengal, including St Xavier's Institution-Sodepur, Julien Day School and DPS Ruby Park, have advanced their summer break after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged early closure amid the India-Pakistan military stand-off. AIIMS Bhubaneswar has cancelled all kinds of leave, including vacation and station leave, with immediate effect in view of the emerging situation. No leave will be granted except on medical grounds until further notice. All previously sanctioned leave stands cancelled, and staff currently on leave have been directed to report to duty immediately. "All faculty members, Residents and all other staff members and Officers who are on leave as on date are hereby informed to report to duty immediately. This will come into force with immediate effect," the official notice said.
The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) has postponed the May 11 examinations due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The exams, initially scheduled for Assistant Professor posts in Chemistry and Physics, were set for morning and evening sessions but will now be held at a later date.
The Chief Resident Commissioner's Office, New Delhi, and the Odisha Parivar Directorate have arranged for the return of 114 Odia students studying at Central Sanskrit University, Jammu. As a precaution, some students were moved to Delhi, with the first batch already travelling to Odisha by train, Majhi informed reporters.

Pakistani troops violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri and Gurez sectors of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, the PTI reported. Several other media reports claimed that the Pakistani military targeted civilian areas, including medical facilities and a school.

A fresh wave of drone attacks by Pakistan last night made residents of border areas in Rajasthan anxious yet their faith in the Indian Armed forces stayed strong as the forces neutralised the drones mid-air, with no harm reported. “The way our forces destroyed the drones mid-air has boosted our confidence that the attacks from Pakistan will not harm us," Jaisalmer resident Jalam Singh told PTI. The western Rajasthan experienced a complete blackout on Friday as well.

AMU vice-chancellor Naima Khatoon lauded Operation Sindoor as a befitting response to the barbaric attack on innocent persons in Pahalgam last month. The Madhya Pradesh government has cancelled all forthcoming leaves of officials in 13 departments including the medical education in view of the India-Pakistan military conflict. Leave will only be granted in exceptional cases including "poor health, marriage in the family or death with the permission of collectors at the district level and secretaries at the state level".
These departments are: public health and medical education, home, energy, urban development and housing, panchayat and rural development, public health engineering, food, civil supplies and consumer protection, public works, revenue, general administration, water resources, Narmada valley development and transport.
CA Charanjot Singh Nanda, president of ICAI addressed the students on Friday and said: “My dear students, you are the future of this great nation. While you focus on your syllabus, let me remind you the greatest syllabus is that of citizenship. It is your turn become a responsible citizens of India.”
“The role of our armed forces cannot be praised enough. They remain vigilant while we sleep. They walk in danger while we walk in peace. Every soldier in uniform, every officer in command are living walls that protect our nation,” Nanda added.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Friday approved the immediate disbursement of about USD 1 billion to Pakistan under the ongoing Extended Fund Facility. In a statement, the Washington-based global lender said its Executive Board concluded the initial review of Pakistan’s economic reform programme under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) arrangement, the PTI reported.
Amid the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has announced that it will provide special provisions for Jammu and Kashmir students and others facing similar issues. "#UGCET 2025 document verification is ongoing at the #KEA office. Due to border tensions, candidates from #JammuKashmir unable to attend will be given special provisions. Others facing similar issues will also be accommodated. No need to panic," it posted on X.
Sonal Goel IAS has urged the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to postpone the UPSC Civil Service Examination (UPSC CSE) preliminary exam scheduled on May 25 in view of the ongoing military tension between India and Pakistan. Citing internet restrictions, travel disruptions , physiological stress and anxiety, Goel said: "There is already a blackout in few districts across States specially J&K , Rajasthan , Punjab , Himachal Pradesh , Haryana, Gujarat and many others are on alert."
"I support the demand of the aspirants requesting for postponement of the UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exams scheduled on 25th May 2025 , in face of the escalating national security concerns and uncertainty due to the ongoing conflict," she added.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar has cancelled the leaves of all staffers, including those on vacation, and asked them to report to duty immediately in view of the prevailing situation in the country, an official order said.
"In view of the impending situation, no leave of any kind, including vacation and sanction leave, is to be granted to any officer except on medical grounds, till further order," the order said. All faculty members, residents and all other staff members and officers who are on leave as of date have been directed to resume duty immediately.

A high-level committee of the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on Friday conducted a comprehensive spot visit to the Advanced Trauma Centre (ATC) at the hospital aimed to assess the preparedness and readiness of the facility in light of the ongoing tense situation between India and Pakistan.
The committee led by PGIMER Director Prof Vivek Lal reviewed the current preparations for managing patient influx amid the prevailing tense scenario. Discussions focused on bed availability, ICU facilities, ventilators, essential drugs, implants and blood bank capacity.
Standing instructions were issued by the PGIMER director to ensure optimal readiness of the centre to serve human life under any adverse circumstances.

The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) has postponed the examinations scheduled for May 11 amid India's ongoing military stand-off with Pakistan and escalating tension between the two neighbouring nations.
A case has been registered against a 19-year-old student from a private college in Hyderabad for allegedly posting hateful comments about Operation Sindoor on social media platforms, police said. The student was also accused of making objectionable remarks against India and pro-Pakistan comments on social media, according to a complaint filed by the college management, they added. She allegedly made "hateful" comments about Operation Sindoor in the college’s instant messaging service.
As many as 52 students from Tamil Nadu pursuing higher education in Jammu and Kashmir and four others on an educational tour to that state have been stranded owing to the developments across the border and steps were on to bring them home safely, the state government said. The stranded students were currently studying agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, sericulture, NIFT, and NIT.

The Himachal Pradesh Technical University has postponed the HPCET 2025, which was scheduled for May 10 and 11, officials said on Friday. The exam has been deferred until further notice and the new dates will be announced soon, said Kamal Dev Singh Kanwar, Controller of Examinations of the university. The test was to be conducted across 10 districts of the state, including Chandigarh.

The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has urged the National Testing Agency (NTA) to postpone the Common University Entrance Test (CET UG) 2025 amid India Pakistan tensions. The organisation claims to receive multiple grievances from students of Jammu and Kashmir and border areas.
"NSUI demands NTA that the CUET-UG exam be postponed immediately due to the current security crisis. Students from border districts of Jammu and Kashmir and other states have told their problems to NSUI and sought help," it said in a post on X.

The ICAI postponed the CA May exams 2025 on Thursday late evening in view of the India Pakistan war-like situation. An official said 55,666 students were to take the CA Final exam and 1,02,378 students were to take CA Intermediate exam 2025, the PTI reported.

Andhra Pradesh Human Resources Minister Nara Lokesh said that the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of students from the state stranded in Jammu and Kashmir amid Pakistan's provocations, the PTI reported. India launched Operation Sindoor to fight terrorism in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.

In view of the India Pakistan war-like situation and the disturbances along the border areas, University of Jammu has postponed the May 8 to 10 exams, the office of the Controller of Examinations said. "Fresh dates for the postponed examinations shall be notified separately in due course of time," it said.
Amid the rising tension between India and Pakistan, Lovely Professional University (LPU) Punjab has advised students not to believe or share rumours or unverified content circulating on social media. It urged students to "Please verify all news through official government sources only". Further it requested to avoid spreading misinformation, altered images, or misleading videos. "Let's stay responsible and help maintain a safe, informed campus environment".
For student safety, all government and private educational institutions in Una district will remain closed today. This includes all government and private schools, colleges, ITIs, vocational training institutes, and Aganwadi in Una district. "The Heads of the institutions shall ensure strict compliance of the above said order. Further instructions, if any, will be issued as required," Jatin Lal, IAS chairman DDMA-cum-District Magistrate, Una district, Himachal Pradesh said.

Considering the present situation, the summer vacation in all primary, upper primary, secondary, higher secondary schools, including SSKRs and MSKs under Gorkhaland Territorial Administration has been rescheduled from May 9 to May 31, the order stated.

All government and govt-aided schools in the state have been informed that the West Bengal summer vacation for schools in the Hill sub divisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, which was scheduled to end on May 13, has been extended till May 31.
"It may be mentioned that as per schedule, the Primary Schools were to reopen on 13 May, 2025 and the Secondary Schools on 24 May, 2025. Considering the present situation, it has been decided that the summer vacation in the primary/ upper primary/ secondary/ higher secondary schools including the schools in the Hill Subdivisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong district has been extended upto 31st May, 2025," the circular read.
The Delhi government schools will begin the summer vacation early this year. The decision to close the government schools in the national capital comes in the backdrop of the prevailing tensions in the border. The Delhi summer vacation for government schools will be from May 9 to June 30.
In view of the India-Pakistan tensions, the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee urged the educational institutions to remain closed. Several private schools have today announced their decision to advance the summer vacation for schools to May 9, as per reports.
DPS RK Puram, East of Kailash, and Vasant Vihar schools closed today. "It is hereby informed that Delhi Public School R.K Puram, East of Kailash and Vasant Vihar will remain closed on Friday, May 9, 2025. All concerned are informed to make a note of the above accordingly," the official order stated addressing all staff members.
"All educational institutions will remain closed on Friday and Saturday in Panchkula. The administration has issued orders for this," the Haryana government officially announced.
"Taking cognizance of the prevailing situation due to India and Pakistan clash and keeping in view of the safety and security of the students, it has been decided to close the Institute for students till 16.05.2025," NIT Jalandhar said in a circular.
To help students move to their native places, the institute has arranged a bus, which will be available from 6 am on May 9. The buses will drop the students to the railway station and bus stand. The move comes amid the rising tension between India and Pakistan especially in the border areas.

Last night, a few students of NIT Jalandhar posted a video of the flying objects in the skies amid security situation as Pakistani troops resorted to firing and shelling. In view of this, the institute has decided to halt classes for all students till May 15. "To enable the students to move to their native places, the Institute buses shall be available from 6.00 am tomorrow (May 9)to drop them to the Railway Station and Bus Stand," a X post claimed.

Rajasthan chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma has cancelled the leave of government employees. It also directed officials to release Rs 5 crore to each of the border districts of Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Sriganganagar.
Delhi Public School, Dwarka on Friday informed parents of Class 3 to 5 students that the school will remain physically closed today, May 9.
"Online Classes will be held via Microsoft Teams from 8:30 am to 1 pm for the students of Classes III to V. Regular Time table will be followed from second period onwards. Timings of the periods will be shared shortly," the circular read.
There is no update yet on Delhi school closure. On Thursday late evening, reports claimed that Gurugram schools will be closed today on May 9. However, official confirmation on the decision is awaited.
