NEW DELHI: The Hyderabad Schools Parents Association (HSPA) has demanded that the school education department should regulate the fee charged by the schools, and not just the fee hiked, reported the Times of India.

Earlier, school managements had urged the state government to not bring any regulations for the next two years and to allow fee hikes by 30 percent for the 2022-23 academic year.

K Venkat Sainath, HSPA joint secretary, in a representation submitted to the department said, “several schools, especially the older and established ones, have been trying to sell this idea to the government that the regulation of the fee hike percentage (around 10 per cent annum) alone, without regulating the base fee, is the best way to regulate school fees. If the government accepts this, the new legislation will turn out to be a bonanza for the schools and an unmitigated disaster for the parents.”

As per the report, the HSPA has also asked to make it mandatory for schools to seek prior approval, before fee hike and asked the department to define the terms “fee” and “private schools” saying that it was necessary to initiate any fee regulatory mechanism.
