Hyderabad University ranks 246th in QS Asia University Rankings 2026; fifth among India’s central universities

The University of Hyderabad (UoH) is ranked 246th in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026 and fifth among India’s Central Universities. The rankings, released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), assess universities across Asia on parameters such as academic reputation, research output, faculty-student ratio, and internationalisation.

The University has maintained a steady record in postgraduate education and research. It continues to promote interdisciplinary learning and collaborations with national and international institutions.

“With state-of-the-art infrastructure and a faculty of international repute, the University has been at the forefront of groundbreaking research, pushing the boundaries of knowledge and addressing real-world challenges,” the press release said.

Vice-Chancellor of Hyderabad University, BJ Rao, said the ranking reflects the institution’s consistent focus on improving academic and research standards and its efforts toward building a collaborative and inclusive academic environment.

"This achievement is a testament to the University's commitment to excellence and its focus on creating a diverse and inclusive academic community. We will continue to strive for excellence and make a positive impact on the world,” he said.

Telangana universities’ performance in QS Asia Rankings 2026

Among higher education institutions from Telangana, UoH leads with a rank of 246, followed by IIT Hyderabad at 270, Osmania University at 470, NIT Warangal in the 771–780 band, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in the 1101–1200 band, and English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in the 1401–1500 band.

According to the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, Chandigarh University (CU) has retained the top position among India’s private universities for the third consecutive year. The university has also improved its overall ranking in Asia to 109, up from 120 in 2025.

In the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, Delhi University, and five Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) — Delhi, Madras, Bombay, Kanpur and Kharagpur — have been placed among Asia’s top 100 universities. Altogether, seven Indian institutions feature in the top 100, 20 in the top 200, and 66 in the top 500.
