ICAI convocation held on all-India basis; 14,700 CAs graduate

The ICAI convocation was inaugurated in Hyderabad by Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture. A total of 2,386 CAs convocated at a function in Mumbai.

NEW DELHI: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has recently organised its convocation ceremony for around 2,386 graduating Chartered Accountants of Mumbai. The event was held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on January 24, 2023.

On an all-India basis, convocation was conducted for 14,700 Chartered Accountants, out of which 44 per cent were women. 4,305 CAs graduated from the western region comprising Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa. In the ICAI convocation, newly enrolled CA members enrolled from May to September 2022 were awarded bank certificates for the CA Final exam held in May 2022 and membership certificates.

The event was inaugurated at the Hyderabad Centre of ICAI by Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture. The inauguration was telecast live across all centres.

Addressing students while inaugurating the convocation at ICAI Hyderabad, Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said, “ICAI has done commendable work in creating awareness and training in the area of GST. 21st century will belong to India in terms of leadership and it is the Chartered Accountants who will lead the country in this century.”

Addressing the parents and their graduating wards, ICAI President CA (Dr) Debashis Mitra in his address to students from Hyderabad, said, “Parents should be proud that their children are now members of the second largest accounting body in the world. He commended the achievement of lady graduates, who formed more than 44 per cent of the total CA graduates.”

ICAI Vice President CA Aniket Sunil Talati said, “A majority of the chartered accountants are pursuing careers in industry and service and less numbers are opting as practising CAs. As audit profession truly defines a CA, I request the new graduates to look seriously into practice as a career option. Like a doctor is known for the surgery he performs, a CA is known for the audit he does.”

In Mumbai, the Central Council Members of ICAI who conferred certificates to the newly qualified Members at the Mumbai convocation included CA Dr Rajkumar Adukia, CA Dhiraj Khandelwal, CA Purushottam Khandelwal, CA Mangesh Kinare, CA Priti Savla and CA Piyush Chhajed. CA Murtuza Kachwala, Chairman, Western India Regional Council of ICAI, was also present on the dais. Coordinators of Mumbai Convocation were CA Mangesh Kinare and CA Priti Savla, Central Council Members of ICAI.
