ICAI: Chartered accountants’ body elects Prasanna Kumar D president for 2026-27

The 26th council of ICAI has also elected CA Mangesh Kinare the vice-president for 2026–27.
The 26th council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has elected CA Prasanna Kumar D the new president and CA Mangesh Pandurang Kinare the vice-president for the council year 2026-27. These appointments take effect from today, February 12, 2026.

Prasanna Kumar D is the 74th President of ICAI, and he takes over from Charanjot Singh Nanda, who was the previous president of the institute.
Prasanna Kumar D has been a chartered accountant since 1984 and a fellow member of ICAI. He has been associated with it at the branch, regional and central levels, says the ICAI statement. He was president of the Visakhapatnam branch from 2001 to 2002 and was on the South India Regional Council from 2007 to 2016. He's also served on the ICAI’s central council.
“During his tenure as vice-president in 2025-26, the Chartered Accountants Welfare Fund collected Rs 6.09 crore and provided Rs 2.24 crore in assistance to the families of members,” the statement said.
CA Prasanna Kumar to lead ICAI in 2026-27
“Prasanna Kumar has also served on national committees on corporate governance, tax advisory, GST grievance redressal and trade reforms. He heads ICAI's research and development units, accounting research foundation, XBRL India and three welfare funds. Internationally, he represents ICAI in SAFA, PAFA and AFA forums and is a technical advisor to IFAC board members,” the ICAI said.
Mangesh Pandurang Kinare, the new vice president, has been a fellow member of the ICAI and has worked in accounting, taxation and related fields for over three decades.
“He is serving his third term on the central council of ICAI and has held key positions, including Chairman of the Western India Regional Council in 2013-14 and Chairman of several ICAI committees. He is an expert in GST, audit and corporate advisory, and serves as an independent director and faculty at professional forums. He has served on the regulatory committee bench for six years,” the statement reads.
