IGNOU Online Programmes: IGNOU intends to increase the gross enrollment ratio (GER) in India

NEW DELHI: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) launched two online degree programmes, Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) and Masters in Computer Application (MCA), to be taught online to students in India and abroad.
The courses are being offered by IGNOU’s School of Computer and Information Sciences. According to a statement from IGNOU, the online degree courses are intended to help achieve the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 target of improving the gross enrollment ratio (GER) in India by “providing access, equity, inclusiveness and quality at an affordable price to learners across the country and the world”. To this end, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has permitted over 50 institutions to offer degree courses online.

“This initiative will increase the enrollment numbers in BCA, MCA programmes,” said PV Suresh, director of SOCIS, IGNOU.
The programme aims to provide admission to aspiring candidates of computing courses who have passed Class 10 and Class 12 and are looking for a career in computing or in the IT sector. The bachelor’s degree (BCA online) from IGNOU will make the students eligible for employment and for higher education.

The MCA programme, which will follow a semester system, intends to equip the students with the necessary skills to succeed in a productive career in the software industry. IGNOU has claimed to facilitate a productive platform for teaching and research. According to IGNOU, the programme will provide a thorough background in theoretical and application-oriented courses relevant to the latest computer software development approach in mind.

Candidates who are interested can register at ignouiop.samarth.edu.in. IGNOUs online courses, at iop.ignouonline.ac.in, also include a host of online certificate and degree programmes including ones in commerce, agriculture and library sciences.
