Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced a new online master’s degree programme in social work. The course will last a minimum of two years and a maximum of four years and delivered entirely online.
The programme code for the Masters in social work (online) programme is MSWOL. The course is open to graduates in any discipline, provided the degree came from a recognised university.
All study materials will be digitally provided; the medium of instruction is English.

The fee structure differs for Indian students, SAARC students, and non-SAARC students.
The fees for the online master’s degree are given below.

Exams for MSWOL will be conducted annually and each student will need to obtain 72 credits in total to earn the Master’s degree.
After the completion of the programme, graduates will find themselves equipped for careers in child welfare, healthcare, education, mental health, community development, policy advocacy, and corporate social responsibility, according to the official statement. There is a demand for trained social workers across governmental, corporate, and non-profit sectors.
The online Master’s programme in social work is available from the July 2025 session of IGNOU admissions. Interested candidates can apply on the official IGNOU admissions portal - ignouiop.samarth.edu.in. The last date to apply is July 15, 2025.
