AHMEDABAD, MARCH 17 : Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) created history as they awarded the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree for the first time to its batch of 2017-19 at the 54th convocation. This will prove to be a game changer for all the students who pass out from one of the premier institutes of the country.
Starting from the batch of 2019, IIM Ahmedabad chose to provide MBA degrees to its PGP students instead of the traditional PGDM diplomas. Since the IIM Act was passed in 2017, all IIMs can award degrees and the move is being hailed by the students.
Boost to Quality Education
Careers360 spoke to Rishabh Verma who was among the first batch of students to get MBA degree from IIM Ahmedabad. Rishabh was of the view that now the IIM will be able to compare their standards with international colleges offering MBA degrees. He opined, “Providing MBA degree will result in better competition and improvement in the quality of education.”
Academic Recognition
The awarding of the MBA degree will now ease the pressure on the students as the MBA degree will make the process of recognition smooth and easy for those students who wanted to pursue higher education abroad. Verma further added, “ IIM Ahmedabad as a brand in itself has been recognized globally, but the PGDM diploma has never been as popular. This results in extra effort for students aiming to work abroad, or pursuing higher education.”
