IIM Ahmedabad establishes Krishnamurthy Tandon School of AI to address complex challenges

IIM Ahmedabad's Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence has been set up through an endowment of Rs 100 crore by Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon, alumna of IIMA’s PGP Class of 1975, and her husband Ranjan Tandon.

The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad) has inaugurated Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence on its campus today. The AI school is established to translate advances in AI into practical tools. It will also support better decision-making, improve productivity, and address complex challenges across industry, government, and society.

The IIM Ahmedabad's new AI school has been set up through an endowment of Rs 100 crore by Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon, alumna of IIMA’s PGP Class of 1975, and her husband Ranjan Tandon.

The Krishnamurthy Tandon School of AI will be a world-class platform to deploy the power of AI in conjunction with IIMA’s management expertise to benefit business and society, according to an official statement.

'IIM Ahmedabad's new AI School will enhance decision-making'

The AI school will operate at the “intersection of technology, management, and public impact, with a focus on how AI is understood, adopted, governed, and embedded within organisations and public systems,” it said.

It will also help in bridging the AI research with managerial, institutional, and societal challenges and seeks to generate knowledge that is globally relevant and grounded in Indian contexts and institutions, the management institute said.

“The AI school has also undertaken translational research, education, and engagement, and will also prepare leaders who combine technical understanding with managerial judgement and societal responsibility to navigate the complexity of the dynamic business landscape,” IIM Ahmedabad said.

Bharat Bhasker, director, IIMA, said: “The establishment of the Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence at IIMA is a timely and forward-looking initiative that will bridge the gap between rapidly advancing AI technology and its effective integration into organisations to enhance leadership, decision-making, and productivity through education, innovation, research, and industry partnerships.”

Chandrika Tandon, business Leader, humanitarian, Grammy-Award Winning Musician, and alumna of IIMA’s PGP Class of 1975 along with Pankaj Patel, chairperson, board of Governors, IIMA; Bharat Bhasker, director, IIMA, and Ramesh Mangaleswaran, founding member, IIMA Endowment Fund all took part in the IIM Ahmedabad's Krishnamurthy Tandon School of AI's inauguration ceremony.
