IIM Raipur: 14.5% of MBA batch 2025 from IITs, NITs, IIITs; academic diversity intentional, says director

IIM Raipur’s MBA batch features diverse academic backgrounds, with 55.5% of students from engineering and 44.5% from non-engineering fields such as commerce, science, law, MBBS.
Indian Institute of Management Raipur (IIM Raipur) hosted the inauguration and orientation programme for the MBA batch 2025-27, comprising 353 students. The batch represents a diverse and inclusive cohort, with students hailing from 21 states and 3 Union Territories. Notably, 14.5% of the students come from IITs, NITs, IISERs, IIITs, and IIMs.
Reflecting the institute’s growing national footprint, 26 students — 7.57% of the total — are alumni of premier institutions, including NIT Tiruchirapalli, NIT Rourkela, VNIT Nagpur, and IIT Guwahati.
Moreover, this year’s MBA batch come from diverse academic backgrounds. As per the institute, 55.5% of students from engineering stream, and 44.5% from non-engineering fields such as commerce, science, humanities, law, management, MBBS.
“The balanced academic composition of this year’s batch brings together analytical precision and contextual depth, fostering a learning environment that encourages multidimensional thinking and informed decision-making,” the institute said.
Students enrolled in the MBA programme have an average of around 23 months of work experience across diverse sectors, including IT, engineering, BFSI, retail, and healthcare.
Their experience, industry exposure, and geographical diversity will bring in collaborative and enriching educational experiences, preparing students to lead with integrity and agility in a rapidly evolving global business landscape, IIM Raipur said.

Intentional academic diversity at IIM Raipur
Director of IIM Raipur , Ram Kumar Kakani, said: “Classroom diversity drives decision-making depth. At IIM Raipur, we don’t just teach management, we create a space where analytical thinking and human insight coexist. This year’s cohort reflects a conscious shift toward interdisciplinary learning, with students bringing expertise from engineering, commerce, sciences, and the liberal arts.”
“Such academic diversity is not incidental; it is intentional. It enhances classroom engagement, fosters collaborative problem-solving, and prepares our students to navigate the complexities of today’s interconnected world. As they begin this journey, we are committed to equipping them not just with technical competence, but with ethical clarity, strategic foresight, and a strong sense of purpose,” he added.
IIM Raipur also hosted a series of student-centric sessions aimed at promoting career readiness, awareness, and mental well-being. A workshop on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) was conducted by Ashapurna Baruah, alongside POSH experts Mala Thapar and Dr CK Swain.
