NEW DELHI: After 11 months of COVID-19 shutdown, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur has resumed on-campus classes for its students, especially for those facing internet and infrastructure issues at home.

Although the IIM-Sambalpur campus has been reopened for both the first and second-year students, the institute will continue to conduct online classes.

“The institute is also adopting a set of safety and hygiene guidelines which will be updated from time to time as issued by the government authorities,” an official statement said.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the institute was shut down in March last year and shifted all educational activities to online mode. IIM Sambalpur is also conducting all examinations using online proctoring systems for descriptive exams or using Learning Management Software, or LMS, for a quiz.

IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta have also allowed students to rejoin classes on campus.

IIM Sambalpur COVID-19 guidelines

To ensure the safety of staff and students, IIM-Sambalpur has also laid out guidelines to be followed while on campus.

On arrival, each student will be asked to self-quarantine themselves for a period of 14 days in separate rooms. For all students, COVID-19 safety measures like wearing masks outside their hostel rooms, thermal scanning of body temperature upon entering the campus, maintaining social distancing in common spaces, and sanitising hands will be mandatory.

To avoid large gatherings, the institute has also arranged the meal timings for students and staff in batches. Thorough disinfection and cleaning of all surfaces will be maintained by the institute.

For symptomatic students or staff members, the institute also has two rooms equipped with oxygen cylinders and other essential facilities in a separate building on the campus. A medical officer will also visit the hostel regularly to check up on students.
