IIM Sambalpur’s social club Sankalp provides relief to 400 families

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur’s social club, Sankalp, has stepped in to provide basic necessities to the community around the Odisha campus amid the nationwide lockdown enforced to curb the spread of coronavirus.

With the help of social communication, the students of IIM Sambalpur and its alumni are also educating the community to about the importance of social distancing and other hygienic practices. The students have helped as many as 400 families so far.

The club is providing basic necessities like food and shelter to the underprivileged, the daily wagers, street vendors, migrant workers.

The Union education minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has also lauded the efforts and initiatives taken up by the students of the institute.

“IIM Sambalpur's social club 'Sankalp,' along with the institution's alumni, is working tirelessly to help underprivileged, daily wagers, street vendors, and migrant workers with food shelter. They have helped 400 families in Sambalpur so far,” Pokhriyal wrote on his official Twitter handle.

Apart from the students, the teachers at IIM Sambalpur have joined the relief work.

Adopting technology

The institute is also gearing up to hold the semester end exams through online proctoring systems.

The exam for MBA first-year students will be conducted in online mode and the institute is planning to use artificial intelligence to keep a check on cheating during examination. The institute will be the first to conduct the examination using digital methods.

The course curriculum at the institute is also being shifted to online mode.

An official statement said: “With the help of technology, the students and teachers can interact, submit their assignments, host quizzes as well as mid-term/end-term exams and provide online feedback."
