IIT- BHU holds Centenary Celebration –honours alumni

NEW DELHI, MAY 21: Celebrating 100 years of legacy, Indian Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University (IIT BHU) organized the 16th annual general body meeting, followed by a panel discussion on “Building Leaders – Future role of technical education in India”. Nation’s pioneering institute in imparting technical education and innovation in engineering had also honoured people with outstanding contribution in their respective fields in the award of excellence ceremony.
India’s technical education system has grown by manifolds offering opportunities in education and training in a range of trades and disciplines at different levels. The country has also over the years significantly bolstered the quality and availability of technical education, doubling the employment rate of graduates who are now better suited to the needs of Indian Industry. However, there is lot more potential that needs to be tapped.
Talking about same, Professor Rajeev Sangal, IIT BHU Director said, “There is a dire need of bolstering conventional study and teaching with new methodologies in technical education, including use of ICT, MOOCs, and project oriented learning. We need to have a sound assessment of quality leading to greater effectiveness. Moreover, research needs to connect with the nation's needs. Students also need to be inspired and led by example. In IIT(BHU), we are working on all these fronts together with a strong sense of Human Values”.
The event also witnessed eminent personalities getting recognized for their outstanding contribution in their respective fields by Association of IIT B.H.U. Alumni (AIBA).
Rajeev Gupta, President, Association of IIT B.H.U. Alumni (AIBA), remarked, “Every year, AIBA provides a platform to showcase outstanding initiatives. The awards demonstrate the diverse and impactful ways in which the winners have a significant contribution in their respective fields. We are thrilled to provide recognition to the ideal contributors of the industry who are nominated and judged by a panel of industry executives and experts.”
The jury has put the award winners in the following four categories:
· Life Time Achievement Award: AIBA has recognized people who has done extensive work on higher education, technology development in the field of management and entrepreneurship.
· Distinguished Alumnus Award: The Association conferred the honour to one of the Alumni, for his significant contributions in the field of Management and Entrepreneurship.
· Young Achiever Award: The Association awarded the Young Achiever Award for his substantial achievements in the field of Management and Entrepreneurship and Art, culture and social work.
· Jury choice Award: The award was given for the contribution in the field of higher education and research, management and entrepreneurship and public service and its impact.
An alumnus of B.H.U. and a well-known name in industry, Dr. US Awasthi, MD & CEO, IFFCO who also present to grace the event said, “It’s an honor to be a part of 100th year celebration of IIT BHU, a place where I had great learning. The primary focus of AIBA has always been to form a strong network of stakeholders to come together and share ideas. India has over the years significantly bolstered the quality and availability of technical education, doubling the employment rate of graduates who are now better suited to the needs of Indian Industry.”
