IIT Bombay announces PG, PhD admission 2025 schedule; application starts on March 25

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has announced the schedule for admission to its various postgraduate (PG) and PhD programmes for the academic year 2025-26.

The engineering institute will commence the application process for admission to several PhD, MTech and MA courses on March 25.

The IIT Bombay is offering a total of 10 degree programmes, which includes PhD, MTech, MS by research (computer science and engineering), MS by research (data science artificial intelligence in CMInDs), MS by research in healthcare informatics, MTech + PhD (dual degree), Master in Public Policy (MPP), MA+PhD (dual degree) in philosophy in the department of humanities and social sciences, Master in Development Practice (MDP), and Master of Arts by research (MA in Research).

The academic session for the above courses will start from July 2025.

The technology institute will conduct the entrance test for admission to its MPP programme for the autumn semester 2025-26 on May 6. The written test will be held in an offline mode. The interview for the selected candidates will be held the next day, on May 7.

The written test for admission to the MA + PhD in Philosophy for autumn semester 2025-26 will be held in an online mode in two sessions on May 3 and 4. The selected students will have to appear for an interview round on May 6.

IIT Bombay 2025 Admissions: Eligibility criteria

Candidates should have the following parameters to be able to apply for the various PG, and PhD courses.

PhD: Candidates should have a master’s or equivalent degree in engineering or technology, MBA (with BTech or BE or equivalent degree), bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology or medicine (4 year degree), bachelor degree in science, (4 year degree), master’s or equivalent degree in science, master's or equivalent degree in arts or commerce, to be able to apply.

MTech: Applicants having BE or BTech or BSc (engineering) or bachelor of architecture or bachelor of planning or MSc or MCA or MBBS (medicine) or BDS (dental), BPharma or BVSc, BPTh, BASLP, Pharma D (duration 4 years of more), will be eligible.

MS by Research (Computer Science and Engineering): Students with degrees in BE or BTech or AMIE or equivalent in any engineering discipline or bachelor degree in science (BS) (4 year degree) or MSc or equivalent in any science or mathematical discipline or MCA (with undergraduate BSc degree in physics and mathematics or BCA) or equivalent, will be able to register for the programmes.

MS by Research (Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in CMInDs): Candidates with first class or 60% marks (55% marks for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe), as specified in the general eligibility criteria, in any of the following qualifying degrees: BE or BTech or AMIE or equivalent in any engineering discipline or 4-year bachelor of science degree such as BS, BSc (with honours), or BSc (with research) in any science, mathematical, or engineering discipline. or MSc or equivalent in any science, statistics, or mathematical discipline or MCA (with physics and mathematics at BSc level) or equivalent.

MS by Research in Healthcare Informatics: Candidates with first class or 60% (55% marks for SC/ST) marks in BE or BTech or AMIE or equivalent in any engineering discipline or MSc or equivalent in any science discipline or MCA (with physics & mathematics at BSc level) with equivalent degree are eligible.

MTech + PhD (Dual Degree): Candidates eligible for admission to MTech programmes are also eligible for MTech+PhD dual degree programme, in certain disciplines or specializations. There is a common application for MTech and MTech+ PhD (dual degree) Programme. Candidates after getting admission to M.Tech. Programme will be considered for M.Tech.+ Ph.D. (Dual Degree) programme if they have opted for it in the application.

Master in Public Policy (MPP):Any two-year master’s degree or a 4-year bachelor’s degree (post 10+2) in arts, commerce or equivalent, or an LLB with a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/PwD) or /equivalent letter grade/ GPA from a recognized institution or deemed university (as recognized by AICTE/ UGC/AIU) or two-year MSc/MS/MTech degree or a 4-year BSc/BS/BTech/BArch degree (minimum 4 year degree) or MBBS degree (post 10+2) or equivalent with a minimum of 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST/PwD) or equivalent letter grade/ GPA.

MA+PhD (Dual Degree) in Philosophy: The candidate should have a bachelor's degree (BA/Bcom/BS/Bsc/BE/ BTech), 10+2+3/4, in any discipline with 60% marks (or first class as specified by the university) for GN/EWS/OBC(NC) and 55% for SC/ ST/ PwD categories.

Master in Development Practice (MDP): At least a bachelor’s degree (minimum 4-year program) in fields of engineering, technology, planning, or architecture or a 5-year master’s degree in physical sciences from a university recognized by UGC.

Master of Arts By Research (MA Res): A 3-year bachelor's degree (such as a BA, BSc, BCom or others, 10+2+3) or a 4-year bachelor’s degree (such as BA, BS, BTech, 10+2+4) or an earlier post-graduate degree (such as an MA, MSc: 10+2+3+2) or candidates should meet the minimum percentage criterion in their qualifying degree as per the institute norms (GN/EWS/OBC-NC 60% and SC/ST/PwD 55%; or a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)/Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.0 on the scale of 0-10.
