18-year-old student first-year student of BTech at IIT Bombay dies by suicide after allegedly jumping off seventh floor. Case in accidental death filed.

MUMBAI: An 18-year-old student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, located in Powai area, allegedly dies by suicide by jumping off the seventh floor of a hostel building located on the campus on Sunday, police said.
The deceased, who hailed from Ahmedabad, was a first-year student of the BTech (Chemical) course. The incident came to light after security guards on the campus spotted the youth lying in a pool of blood, a police official said. He said the deceased had not left any suicide note and prima facie he jumped from the refuge areas of the hostel building.

“Based on the primary information, we have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is underway," said senior police inspector Budhan Sawant.
Recently, An IIT Delhi student lost his life in an accident outside the institute campus. Ashraf Nawaz Khan and Ankur Shukla (29), both PhD students, went to a restaurant in the SDA market on Tuesday night and were crossing the road after having dinner when the car hit them, a senior police officer said.
One of the students, Ashraf Nawaz Khan, succumbed to injuries while another student, Ankur Shukla, who also got injured, is undergoing treatment, the statement said.
