Download NowNEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will organise an open house meeting in the open-air theatre (OAT) IIT Delhi campus tomorrow from 5 pm to 7 pm. Students must carry a valid IIT Delhi ID card. The meeting will be led by the IIT Delhi director Rangan Banerjee.

The open house meeting at IIT Delhi is being organized to hold discussions on the recent suicide events reported by the institute. The deputy director T R Sreekrishan in an official mail informed all the students regarding the open house saying,” We are all shocked by the latest tragedy in our campus. To deal with such a loss is extremely difficult for all of us. Led by the Director, we need to come together as a community to help each other to every extent.”

A BTech student of IIT Delhi allegedly died by suicide on September 1. According to the institute, it is the second incident of suicide in less than two months. The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) director Rangan Banerjee, in an official mail, informed about the demise of Anil Kumar who was pursuing a BTech in Mathematics.

The Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle (APPSC) had asked for an open house in wake of recent suicide events. Shainal Verma, a member of APPSC and a Phd scholar at IIT Delhi, said, “We have sent a mass email to the director and requested the head of departments to call for suspension of classes to listen to our demands. We are demanding that on Monday from 7:30 AM onwards all classes must be suspended, along with an Open house with the IIT Delhi director where he interacts with the students and listens to grievances of ST/SC students and recognises the need to address the growing deaths of marginalised students on campus.”
