50% of IIT Gandhinagar alumni collectively donated nearly Rs 50 lakh for students in 2021-22

Gandhinagar: 50% of alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) jointly contributed nearly Rs 50 lakh during the financial year (FY) 2021-22 for various student and community welfare initiatives of the institute.

“Such monumental participation by young alumni of IITGN is a record of a kind because no other Indian educational institutions have ever been close to such a percentage by their alumni. It is also a record internationally,” IIT Gandhinagar said in a statement.

Out of total 2,749 alumni of IIT Gandhinagar, a total of 1,375 alumni, which is 50% of the total alumni strength, collectively donated about Rs 47.50 lakh towards various welfare activities of the institute, taking the average contribution to Rs 3,453.

The average percentage of participation by the alumni in the “Annual Alumni Giving” activity during the last two years (2020-21 and 2021-22) has been 52.5%, it said.

The institute also said that both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) alumni have been contributing equally. This year, out of 1,375 donor alumni, more than 700 of them are PG alumni.

“With such generous philanthropic patronage by young alumni and various well-wishers of the Institute across the globe, IITGN has been able to support many current students and the larger community of the Institute in multiple ways, including providing laptop grants, scholarships, travel grants, financial assistance for medical/family emergencies, extending help for medical expenses, children's education of various support staff and construction workers of the Institute, among others,” it added.

Over the last three years, IITGN Alumni have instituted 21 endowed scholarships, which provide one lakh per scholarship per year to students to foster excellence.
