IIT Gandhinagar invites applications for MA in Society and Culture

Graduates in any discipline can apply for the course at IIT Gandhinagar website before February 10.
NEW DELHI : The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) has invited applications for admission to its postgraduate programme in society and culture for the academic session 2024. Interested and eligible students can apply through the official website by February 10, 2024.
As per the eligibility criteria for the MA programme, students with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline can apply.
The PG programme provides exposure to key areas within the humanities and social sciences, including history, cultural studies, literature, translation studies, sociology, political science and anthropology.
Students will get diverse research experiences like conducting field-work and ethnographic research, visiting historical and archaeological sites in Gujarat, travelling across the country through the IIT Gandhinagar explorer fellowships, taking advantage of the national and international academic and industrial internship opportunities, among others.
Highlighting the unique qualities of the programme, professor Vikrant Jain, head, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Gandhinagar, said, "Interdisciplinary knowledge and skills greatly enhance our ability to think innovatively and solve problems. IIT Gandhinagar's courses are designed with this flexibility and interdisciplinary focus, broadening the educational experience. The MA in Society and Culture program encourages students to develop varied perspectives on social and cultural issues, enabling a deeper understanding of different academic disciplines' interconnections.”
The career opportunities and research options for students pursuing this programme include:
- Working with non-profit sector (NGOs, policy think-tanks), industry roles such as journalism, advertising or media, communications, writing, and human resources
- Academic roles such as teaching or research in ecological sciences and public policy, among others
- International PhD opportunities
IIT Gandhinagar provides financial support as well as ‘On-Campus Employment Opportunities’ programme to its students. The Institute also encourages the MA students to present their research work at international conferences abroad and provides travel scholarships of up to Rs 60,000.
