IITGandhinagar’s PhD scholars selected for Prime Minister’s Research Fellows scheme

11 PhD scholars of the institute were shortlisted in May 2021 cycle. With this selection, the IIT now has a total of 21 PMRF scheme fellows.

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar's PhD scholars have been shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Research Fellows (PMRF) scheme. 11 PhD scholars of the institute were shortlisted in May cycle, 2021. With this selection, the IIT now has a total of 21 PMRF scheme fellows.

“PMRF candidates are selected through a rigorous selection process at the national level. Besides the mandatory GATE and degree requirements with a minimum CGPA of 8 or equivalent, the candidates are judged on the metrics of research exposure, publications, performance in international competitions (like Math Olympiad, ACM ICPC Programming Contest), grades, and recommendation letters. The selection also demands a strong research proposal, and due weightage is given to publications in reputed journals/conferences as well,” informed press statement from IIT Gandhinagar.

The PhD scholars who have been selected for the PMRF fellowship are from Departments of Earth Sciences, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Cognitive Science and Materials Engineering. The shortlisted candidates are working in the areas of interdisciplinary research and development at IIT Gandhinagar.

The PMRF scheme, launched in 2018-19 is coveted research fellowships in the country which aims at improving the quality of research in science and technology in various higher educational institutions in the country.
