NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of technology (IIT) Gandhinagar is coming up with the fourth edition of the scientific seminar founded by the IITGN in 2019 and dedicated to the work of Indian scientists and mathematicians working after Independence. The seminar series is about the two prominent scientists, ornithologist and naturalist, Salim Moizuddin Abdul Ali - better known as “India’s birdman” -- and Amal Kumar Raychaudhuri, the "father figure" of India’s relativity research after Independence, according to the IIT-GN press release.

The registrations for the seminar are open till August 19,2021. The seminar is free and open to all but registrations are compulsory- events.iitgn.ac.in/indianscientistsseries . The organisers of the seminar are IIT-GN faculty members Sudipta Sarkar and Michel Danino.

The keynote speaker for the first seminar is Tara Gandhi, ornithologist and conservationist. The seminar will address the contributions made by Ali in conservation biology, his effort in introducing interdisciplinary studies of natural ecosystems and birds, encompassing botany, entomology (scientific study of insects), economics, biogeography as well as behavioural sciences and ethology and his life as a scientist, the release said.

Sudipta Sarkar, from IIT-GN will lead the second seminar on “Raychaudhuri and His Equation”. This lecture will talk about the scientists' research after independence in the field of relativity and cosmology. Also the most significant contribution, the eponymous Raychaudhuri equation which elaborates on the singularities and how they inevitably arise in the beginning of the universe or at the center of a black hole.
