NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee will commence the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025 today, February 1, 2025. The exam will be conducted in two sessions – forenoon session from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and afternoon session from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The duration of the GATE exam will be three hours.
In the latest update, IITR has moved GATE exam centres 2025 from Prayagraj to Lucknow after receiving representations from candidates expressing difficulty in reaching the centre due to Mahakumbh Mela 2025.
GATE exam 2025 is being conducted on February 1, 2, 15, and 16 for admission to master’s programmes offered by IITs and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore. GATE 2025 scores will also be used by the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment.
GATE 2025 will be held in a computer-based test mode for 30 papers. As per GATE 2025 exam pattern, each paper will carry a total of 100 marks. All the test papers will contain a General Aptitude (GA) section of 15 marks and the chosen subject of 85 marks.
Aspirants can download the GATE admit card 2025 from the official website, gate2025.iitr.ac.in. It is mandatory to carry the admit card along with a photo ID proof to the exam hall.
Personal calculators, watches, wallets, mobile phones, bluetooth devices, electronic or communication devices, books, charts, tables, loose sheets, papers, data, handbooks, pouches or boxes are not permitted inside the examination hall.

As per GATE 2025 marking scheme, each question will carry one or two marks. There will be negative marking in the multiple-choice questions. However, no marks will be deduced in MSQ and NAT questions.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are launching new multi-disciplinary and industry-oriented MTech programmes, as the postgraduate degree has been losing its popularity in the engineering colleges. Over the last two years, the institutes have introduced new courses in artificial intelligence, date science, electic vehicles, advanced materials, nanotechnology, drinking water, and sanitation.

While talking to Careers360, a GATE 2025 aspirant shared that she's studying in third year and this is her attempt. About her strategy for exam, she said that she will attempt only those questions she knows the answers to and would leave the rest. Another candidate, who's working, said she will attempt easy questions first and then move on to the difficult questions.

According to GATE 2025 marking scheme, candidates will be awarded one or two marks for each question. For a wrong answer chosen in an MCQ, there will be negative marking as follows:
There is no negative marking for wrong answer(s) to MSQ or NAT questions. There is no partial marking in MSQ.
The GATE 2025 exam will comprise of two sections. One section will be on General Aptitude (GA) and other on the subject selected by the candidate.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering will be conducted for a duration of three hours.
