IIT Guwahati implements PM Scholarship Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir students, signs MoU to extend internships

October 6, New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati in collaboration with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has implemented the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme for students hailing from Jammu and Kashmir. IIT Guwahati and AICTE have signed a Memorandum of Understanding which aims at providing introduce the young students from the state of Jammu and Kashmir to advanced academic culture at the top institutes of India. Under the MoU signed by IIT Guwahati and AICTE, 100 meritorious students from Jammu and Kashmir will be enrolled for internship at IIT Guwahati from May 1, 2020 to May 30, 2020.
IIT Guwahati will specially design a detailed programmes for the Internship. The programme will be made by IIT Guwahati faculty keeping in mind popular science lectures from IIT Guwahati faculty as well as guest faculty from outside the institute. The main point of interest of these internships will be in the field of field of research and will be overlooked by various Professors at the Institute. Along with this, the Centre of Educational Technology will also demonstrate students model experiments in Physics and Chemistry with the respective Departments.
In the IIT council meeting Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati spoke briefly about this initiative saying , “IIT Guwahati has always believed in empowering the world beyond its campus and own students. This exchange of agreement will channelize the energy of the talented youth from Jammu and Kashmir by providing them exposure to cutting edge laboratory. Apart from knowledge sharing and exchange, several co-curricular activities will also be organised for these meritorious students.”
The MoU has been signed with an objective to extend internships of Jammu & Kashmir students. The MoU was signed in the IIT council meeting in the presence of Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati and Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE in the presence of Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Minister of State for HRD, Shri Sanjay Dhotre.
