IIT Guwahati organises brainstorming workshop on 'technology vision 2047' for north eastern region

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) concluded a two-day brainstorming workshop on technology vision 2047. Faculty members, professionals and stakeholders in various scientific disciplines from the 8 states of North-East India attended the event.

The workshop was jointly conducted by IITG along with Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC). The chief guest of the event was Industrialist, Prabhat Kamal Bezbaruah. The event was also attended by over 60 experts and nearly 70 students from different disciplines.

The main topics of the workshop were- climate change and disaster management, e ducation and skill development, e nergy, food and agriculture, h uman and animal health and i ndustry. The main objective of the workshop was to provide a platform for students and youth. IIT Guwahati also organised a student conclave as a part of the workshop.

The brainstorming session by the sectoral experts brought out key challenges that every sector may encounter in the long run of 2047 and their possible technological and policy related solutions.

Speaking during the workshop, IIT Guwahati, officiating director, Parameswar K Iyer, said: “ North East region is blessed with rich biodiversity and every state has its own unique agricultural products with the possibility to tap into the world market. However, the problem is that they perish before they reach to the market due to lack of storage facilities and other allied amenities. Facilitating an ecosystem of allied technologies, skilling of manpower in niche technologies and promoting technology aided development will provide thrust for this region and make it an engine of growth in multiple sectors.”

During his address, TIFAC, executive director, Pradeep Srivastava, Executive Director, said: “ During Amritkal, on the directives of Hon’ble PM, TIFAC has initiated the process for drafting the Technology Vision 2047 document with the broad vision of achieving Technology Impendence by 2047”
