IIT Kharagpur introduces four-year BS programmes in six subjects

IIT Kharagpur will offer four-year BS programmes in applied geology, chemistry, economics, exploration geophysics, mathematics and computing, physics.
NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)Kharagpur has introduced a four-year BS (Bachelor of Science) programme in place of the existing five year integrated MSc. programme. The Institute currently offers five year- integrated MSc programmes. With the introduction of the new programme, candidates can now have an option to exit with a bachelor degree, or opt to continue for the MS. Admission to the newly introduced course will be through JEE Advanced 2021.
The announcement comes days after the JEE Advanced result was announced. IIT Kharagpur declared the JEE Advanced result on October 15.

The 4 year BS programmes have been started by the Science and HSS Department of IIT Kharagpur. IIT admits the student in its undergraduate programme through Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) rank. Candidates who qualify for admission through the JEE Advanced 2021 batch can apply for admission in a four-year BS programme.

The Institute will give an option to the students to earn a Master in Science degree at the end of the 6th semester of the 4-year programme. The Institute will allow the candidates who wish to pursue the integrated MS degree programme to continue, and plan 7th and 8th semesters so that the candidates get MS degree at the end of 10th semester.

“Those who would like to earn an MS (Master of Science) degree would be given an option to do so at the end of 6th semester of the 4-yr BS programme. Accordingly, 7th and 8th semesters would be planned so that a candidate gets an MS degree at the end of 10th semester,” IIT Kharagpur said in a notification on its website.
The new BS programme will be offered in applied geology, chemistry, economics, exploration geophysics, mathematics and computing, physics. “The detailed syllabus and the course substructure will be available soon,” added the notification. The candidates can check the course details on the official website of IIT Kharagpur.
