IIT Kharagpur invites applications for master’s in public policy law and governance; apply by January 31

Candidates can apply for IIT KGP’s MPPGL programme through its official application portal, gateoffice.iitkgp.ac.in; exam for admission on March 16.
NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has started inviting applications for its two-year master’s programme in public policy law and governance (MPPLG). Candidates can apply through the official website gateoffice.iitkgp.ac.in, by January 31, 2025.
The institute started accepting applications for the master’s programme on December 14, 2024. Candidates can apply on the institute's application portal by typing their name, email id and mobile number.
The institute will be conducting the all-India level written examination for admission to its MPPGL programme on March 16, 2025, and admit cards will be issued on February 28.
“The programme aims to develop professionals who can engage meaningfully in the policymaking arena, whether through direct participation in government, civil society, or industry or by contributing to academia and research. Through rigorous interdisciplinary training, participants will acquire a deep comprehension of how law and governance impact public policy, and how policies, in turn, shape socio-political and economic realities,” the institute said on its official website.
The group discussion and personal interview for admission to the MPPGL programme will commence on May 20, 2025.
On December 31, 2024, Amit Patra assumed the additional charge as the director at IIT Kharagpur after the former director of institute, VK Tewari, professor, vacated the position.
IIT Kharagpur MPPLG course: Eligibility, fee, age limit
Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in science, engineering, law, medicine, commerce, or arts – not less than four years – to apply for IIT Kharagpur's master's programme. General category students need 65% or 7 CGPA while the eligibility for scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, and persons with disability is 60% or 6.5 CGPA.
For candidates in general, other backward class and economically weaker section categories, the age limit is not exceeding 30 years and for SC, ST, PwD, candidates it should be 35 years as of January 1, 2025.
The age limit may be relaxed in case of working executives with up to three years of experience. Preference will be given to female candidates with work experience, the notification on the institute’s website said.
Examination fee for the MPPGL programme for general category candidates is Rs 3,000 and for SC, ST, PwD, female candidates, and third gender candidates, it is Rs 1,500.
The all-India written examination for admission to the MPPGL programme will be conducted on a computer-based test (CBT).
