NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras said more than 2,500 students of its BS in Data Science and Applications have got jobs or promotions. Over 850 students have secured admission for masters and PhD programmes at universities such as Cornell University, Georgia Institute of Technology and Aalto University, among others, IIT Madras added. BS in Data Science and Applications programme was launched in 2020.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has invited applications for BS in Data Science and Applications on the official website, study.iitm.ac.in/ds, till May 26. The entrance examination will be conducted on July 7. The classes will be held online with examinations held in physical mode at 150 centres. The BS Degree in Data Science and Applications was launched in 2020 for students to study from IIT Madras without appearing for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). More than 27,000 students from across the country are enrolled in the programme.
Female and male students with annual family income of less than Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh per annum will not have to pay tuition fee. The fee waiver is being granted as part of corporate social responsibility (CSR) support from companies such as Verizon, Renault Nissan, HSBC, Tata AIA, Sutherland, LTTS, L&T Thales, Dun & Bradstreet and Walmart, among others. “More than 3,645 students have availed these benefits, allowing the students to focus on academics alone and not let monetary concerns hold them back,” IIT Madras said.
IIT Madras V Kamakoti said, “I am proud of the achievements of our BS data science program and its students. The program has opened the doors of IITM to anyone who is willing to work hard and is interested in learning. We hope to introduce more such programs to reach all sections of society.”
