IIT Madras launches BS in Electronic Systems; admission without JEE Main for unlimited seats

IIT Madras: Students who qualified for JEE Advanced 2022 or 2023 is automatically eligible for admission and can register for courses in the foundation level.

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras today launched a 4-year BS in Electronic Systems. Providing students with an option to study at their own pace, the IIT Madras said that there will be multiple entry and exit options. Application process will be opened soon at study.iitm.ac.in.

Students who have completed Class 12 can apply for the IIT Madras’s BS in Electronic Systems. "The programme is designed for students and working professionals from different age groups to give them an opportunity to study from IIT Madras without having to write the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)," the institute said.

A student who has qualified for JEE Advanced 2022 or 2023 is automatically eligible for admission and can register for courses in the foundation level of the BS programme, the officials said in the launch event.

The course materials include tutorial, online live sessions, assignments will be delivered in online mode. On the other hand, the lab facility will be in-person supervised learning and students will be spending about two weeks on campus. Exams for BS in Electronic Systems will be held offline. After completing the 4-year course will be awarded with BS in Electronic Systems by IIT Madras.

All regular entry applicants will have to go through the qualifier process, including four weeks of coursework, to earn admission to the Foundation level. Students will have to submit an assignment every week for grading in each course and at the end of the 4 weeks, a qualifier exam will be conducted for eligible candidates.

“Through this program, we help our learners to get access to a world-class curriculum in Electronic Systems,” the institute said.

Anyone who has completed Class 12 with physics and mathematics can apply irrespective of age, role or geographical location. The number of seats are unlimited. “Learn from anywhere, at your convenience. Option is available to choose the number of courses per semester. The BS degree will be awarded once 142 credits are earned,” the IIT Madras said.

To accomplish the mission of making IIT education more accessible to all, the fee for the BS in Electronic Systems programme has been kept affordable with additional scholarships being provided to students belonging to SC/ST/PwD categories and those with family incomes of less than Rs 5 lakh per annum, ensuring inclusivity.

Students graduating from this programme can find job opportunities in industries such as automotive, semiconductor, and defence, among others, for positions like electronic system designer, embedded system developer, electronic hardware specialist, system testing engineer, and electronics research engineer.
