IIT Patna celebrates its 10th convocation; 630 students awarded degrees

Some IIT Patna students also received the President of India Gold Medal, Director's Gold Medal etc for their academic excellence

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna celebrated its 10th convocation ceremony on Tuesday where 630 students from across various engineering disciplines were awarded degrees.

Among those awarded degrees, 515 were male and 115 were female students. This year, IIT Patna saw 335 BTech, 73 MSc, 90 MTech, and 132 PhD graduates. Out of the 630 total graduates, 366 students received their degrees in person, while the other degrees, received in absentia, would be sent by post.

Apart from degrees, a few students also received medals. Batturi Jaswanth from computer science engineering received the President of India Gold Medal. Gogineni Charisma from mechanical engineering, Anugrah from mechanical engineering, and Lovepreet Singh from Mathematics received the Director's Gold Medal, Chairman's Gold Medal, and Aryabhatta Gold Medal, respectively. Tarusi Mittal from computer science engineering received the Shri Kedar Nath Das Memorial Award.

Seventeen other students from diverse departments were awarded silver medals for their outstanding academic performances. The convocation featured a unique dress code, with male graduates wearing white pyjama kurtas and female graduates wearing white sarees.

N Kalaiselvi, director general of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) was present at the event as chief guest.

Congratulating the graduating students, Kalaiselvi said, "IIT graduates need to find a balance between science and humanity after being exposed to global excellence. That's what global organisations like UNESCO are looking for... All young graduates should also step towards making India a developed country by 2047”.

The chairman, board members, and members of the Senate of IIT Patna were also present at the event.
