IIT Roorkee announces research awards for 2022; complete list here

IIT Roorkee Research Awards 2022: Kanishka Biswas, DP Kanungo, Deepankar Choudhury, Satish Chandra and KK Pant are the five awardees in multiple categories.
NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has announced its research awards for the year 2022 to recognise the outstanding contributions of researchers in their respective field.
The IIT Roorkee Research Awards 2022 are open to all Indian nationals and have been in existence ever since the university was established. It was established as College Civil Engineering, Roorkee, in 1847. It got university status in 1949 and IIT status in 2001.

Kanishka Biswas, a professor in the new chemistry unit at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore, has been awarded the Khosla National Award (Sciences). He works in the field of renewable energy and clean environment. Kanishka Biswas has reported original and significant discoveries in the field of thermoelectric and solid-state inorganic chemistry in the last ten years.
The institute awarded the HRED Hydro and Renewable Energy Award to RP Saini, a professor in the hydro and renewable energy department of IIT Roorkee. He has done significant and innovative research related to hydro power, solar energy, and integrated renewable energy sources.
The recipient of AS Arya Disaster Prevention Award, DP Kanungo, is the chief scientist and group leader of the Geo-Hazard Risk Reduction Group of CSIR-CBRI, Roorkee.
IIT Bombay’s Deepankar Choudhury won the Gopal Ranjan Technology Award. Choudhury is the only geotechnical engineer of India who is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI).
Satish Chandra, a professor in the civil engineering department at the IIT Roorkee was conferred with the SR Mehra Memorial Award for his contribution in the areas of highway capacity and bituminous material characterisation.
Congratulating the winners, IIT Roorkee director KK Pant said: “Many outstanding researchers and institutions have been recognized with these awards for their research excellence. Awards like these are a great way to recognize research excellence in India. By advancing the frontiers of knowledge, impactful research benefits the country and the world."
