IIT Roorkee confers Distinguished Alumnus Award 2021 upon SSV Ramakumar
IIT Roorkee's Distinguished Alumnus Awards conferred upon alumni for their contribution to academics or research

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee presented the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA) 2021 on Thursday to SSV Ramakumar, director, of research and development, and board member, Indian Oil Corporation. Ramakumar was a student of chemistry and earned his master's and PhD degrees in chemistry from 1984-88 at IIT Roorkee. The award was presented by Ajit K Chaturvedi, director, of IIT Roorkee.
The DAA is presented to IIT Roorkee alumni in recognition of their contributions to academic and research excellence.

"Ramakumar has more than three decades of uninterrupted experience in the downstream hydrocarbons sector and is instrumental in the development of India’s home-grown, OEM-approved marine lubricant technology, which catapulted Indian Oil’s SERVO lubes into the select league of five MNCs. He has also spearheaded the complete indigenization of Indian Oil’s flagship INDMAX technology," the statement from IIT Roorkee said.
Expressing gratitude, Ramakumar said, "I am overwhelmed and humbled on being conferred the Distinguished Alumnus Award by my alma mater IIT Roorkee, and what position I hold today is pure because of the guidance I received from my alma mater. And even after 33 years of being away from the campus I still get nostalgic about my time spent there recollecting the teachings. I again thank the committee and the institute for this prestigious award."

Addressing the ceremony, Chaturvedi stated, "It is a pleasure for IIT Roorkee to honour Ramakumar with the Distinguished Alumnus Award of 2021 in the category of Excellence in Technology Innovation. The Distinguished Alumnus awards recognise alumni who have been immensely successful in their chosen profession. Such alumni bring glory to the Institute and make all of us proud of their success."
