India Won 1 Gold & 7 Silver Medals in 60th International Mathematics Olympiad

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 15 - India has bagged 1 gold and 7 silver medals in the 60th International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). Pranjal Shrivastava from Bengaluru has become the youngest Indian to win a gold medal in International Mathematics Olympiad, 2019. Ritam Nag and Anubhab Ghosal from Kolkata, West Bengal, Bhavya Agrawalla from Indore, Madhya Pradesh and Ojas Mittal from New Delhi have also bagged silver medals in the same event. Honorable mention has been given to Soumil Aggarwal from New Delhi. India has overall attained 15th rank in the International Mathematics Olympiad.
60th International Mathematics Olympiad was held in the second week of July 2019 at Bath in the United Kingdom. There are two levels of Maths olympiad. The first one is the National level, where participants of each school compete against each other to secure national-level ranks. Students who qualify the first level will be then called for the second level of the International Mathematics Olympiad.
Pranjal is a 14-years-old student of National Public School, Koramangala, Bengaluru. This was his second attempt at Maths Olympiad. Last year, Pranjal has won a silver medal in the same event, where his rank was 87. India has won a gold medal after 7 years of drought. The last gold won by any Indian in the International Mathematics Olympiad was in 2012 by Debdyuti Banerjee. International Maths Olympiad is considered one of the toughest competitions worldwide. This year, a total of 600 students took part in this from over 210 countries. International Mathematics Olympiad is one of the most prestigious competition which is held annually for national and international level. is conducted for the students of class 1st to 12th.
