ITEP 2023 registration underway; dual major programmes, specialisation, key points

NEW DELHI: The registration for admission to the four-year integrated teacher education programme (ITEP) in educational institutions. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 celebrated its third anniversary today, July 18. The focus was on the ITEP 2023. The last date to register is July 25.

ITEP aims to prepare teachers for foundational, preparatory, middle and secondary stages in line with the new school structure of NEP 2020. ITEP recognition has been granted to 42 institutes including the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Regional Institute of Education (RIEs) and government colleges, for the academic session 2023-24.

The ITEP programme, in line with the provisions of NEP 2020, is an important step toward teacher education in India. By offering dual major programmes, ITEP ensures that students not only receive specialized training in the field of education and school stage but also get the opportunity to study their preferred discipline, such as science, humanities, commerce, etc. This integration of subject expertise will produce teachers equipped to deliver comprehensive and quality education.

A student undergoing the ITEP course will be exposed to a diverse range of learning experiences. The programme emphasizes providing the students with a foundation in Indian values, languages, knowledge, ethos, and tribal customs. Furthermore, ITEP places equal importance on keeping its students well-versed in the latest advances in education and pedagogy.

The education ministry in a social media post said:” #3YearsOfNEP: ITEP aims at preparing teachers for Foundational, Preparatory, Middle and Secondary stages as per the new school structure of #NEP2020. It will ensure that outstanding students enter the teaching profession. A student undergoing this course will be grounded in Indian values, languages, knowledge, ethos, tribal tradition and also well versed in latest advances in education and pedagogy."
