NEW DELHI: A new academic block was inaugurated at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Jahangirpuri, Delhi, by the deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia, who also handles the education portfolio. The block has been set up with the intention to upskill the students at a cost of Rs 76 lakh and includes state-of-the-art infrastructure, a cosmetology lab and a modern plumbing lab. The lab which is set up at the ITI institute in Delhi was established in cooperation with Jaquar Foundation.

“Talented students coming out of training institutes like ITI will write a new chapter in the future. Our country will become developed only when every youth of the country is skilled,” said Sisodia. He further said that ITI students in Delhi are able to secure good jobs due to their skill set. He also highlighted the importance of facilitating an environment to make them job creators.

According to Sisodia, India should focus more on technical education. He said that there has been a change in the way ITIs are functioning by promoting quality technical education according to market demands.

“Quality labs are being set up in ITIs as per market requirements so that children can get hands-on experience for field work. These days, the focus is on professional courses all over the world. But even today, along with India and other developing countries, it is a given in the minds of children that if they do not complete their graduation, they have achieved nothing. On the contrary, in developed countries the focus is on technical education. Today, when a job vacancy with 8th class eligibility criteria is released, thousands of graduates apply for the job. In such a situation, what is the use of that graduation degree which cannot get you a job?,” he said.
