JAB to allow students who missed JEE Advanced 2020 another chance in 2021

NEW DELHI: Candidates who missed the JEE Advanced 2020 exam held on September 27 due to Covid-10 pandemic will be allowed to appear in the exam next year or say, 3rd attempt in JEE Advanced. Also, all these students will not be required to qualify JEE Main 2021 to appear in JEE Advanced 2021. IIT Delhi, the organising institute of JEE Advanced 2020 and IIT Council organised a virtual meeting on October 13 to discuss the concerns raised by all such candidates who were prevented from appearing in JEE (Advanced) 2020 due to restrictions imposed due to Covid-19.

The Joint Admission Board (JAB), IIT Council and IIT Delhi, the organising institute of JEE Advanced 2020 discussed in detail the various options open for those candidates. In the meeting, it has been decided to allow all the candidates, who had successfully registered to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2020 but were absent in the exam, to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2021, as a one-time measure

The JAB has also decided that these candidates will not have to qualify JEE Main 2021 and will be allowed to directly appear in JEE Advanced 2021 on the basis of their successful registration to appear in JEE Advanced 2020. This relaxation of existing eligibility criteria will be in addition to proportionate relaxation of age bar. Further, it was decided that these candidates would be considered in addition to and not as part of the total number of candidates who would qualify from JEE Main 2021 for appearing in JEE Advanced 2021.

As per the official statistics of JEE Advanced 2020, a total of 1,60,838 registered for the exam an 1,50,838 students appeared. A total of 10,000 students missed the exam who will be eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2021 without having to appear in JEE Main 2021. Also, these candidates will be at par the number of candidates who will become eligible for JEE Advanced 2021 by clearing JEE Main 2021.

In JEE Advanced 2020, out of 1,50,838 students who appeared for the exam, 43,204 candidates qualified the exam. Chirag Falor topped the exam by securing 352 marks out of 396. Kanishka Mittal topped JEE Advanced 2002 in female category by securing 315 marks and AIR 17.
