Jamia Millia Islamia on September 7 advised the students not to use unofficial class groups for sharing academic information. The institute also directed Deans of faculties, heads of departments and directors of centres to ensure that academic information is communicated only through official groups.

The latest notice reiterates an earlier policy issued on September 15, 2025, which states that unofficial class groups created by few students on social media platforms have become a source of contention. Not only this, but in many cases, they have been used for personal issues or posting objectionable and obscene content.

Student protest

The prohibition of unofficial groups for sharing information notice comes days after students of Jamia Millia Islamia staged protests over alleged irregularities in the 2026-27 spot admission process. Student organisations raised concerns over the suspension and campus ban imposed on protesting students and demanded a transparent inquiry.

Under the policy, each official class group will be administered by the class representative and include a nominated faculty member. The faculty member will monitor the group to ensure that only relevant academic information is shared and that “objectionable, obscene or vulgar content” is not posted. The university has also directed that all academic information for each batch be communicated exclusively through its official class group.
