JMI VC among 28 Indians to receive Padma Awards 2022 for literature and education

Padma Awards 2022: Sundar Pichai, Satya Narayana Nadella, Cyrus Poonawalla awarded for trade and industry, General Bipin Rawat for civil service, Neeraj Chopra for sports.
NEW DELHI: 28 Indians have been conferred with Padma Awards 2022 for literature and education category. The awards are announced during Republic Day celebrations every year and President Ram Nath Kovind will confer the awards during an event at Rajpath later. Jamia Millia Islamia Vice-chancellor Najma Akhtar has received Padma Shri award.

This year the President has approved conferment of 128 Padma Awards including 2 duo cases (in a duo case, the Award is counted as one). The list includes 4 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri Awards. 34 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners, NRI, PIO, OCI and 13 Posthumous awardees,” said an official statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Maria Christopher Byrski from Poland, Rutger Kortenhorst from Ireland, Chirapat Prapandavidya from Nagaland, and Tatiana Lvovna Shaumyan from Russia have also been conferred Padma awards 2022 for literature and education.

8 people have received Padma awards 2022 for science and engineering category.
Apart from this, General Bipin Rawat (Posthumous) has been awarded Padma Vibhushan for the civil service category whereas Satya Narayana Nadella, Cyrus Poonawalla, and Sundararajan Pichai awarded Padma Bhushan for the trade and industry category.

Moreover, Neeraj Chopra will get Padma Shri award for sports while Sonu Nigam will be awarded for arts category.
Padma Awards are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field.
