NEW DELHI, MAY 20: JEE Advanced 2018, the national level exam for admissions to B.Tech programmes at the 23 IITs concluded today in a glitch free manner. The exam was held in two sessions – Paper I (9 am -12 noon) and Paper II (2 pm – 5 pm). Conducted for the first time in online mode, the exam was held amidst tight security across across 1613 centres in 104 cities in India; additionally, there were eight centres abroad.

Exam authorities had earlier issued tight guidelines related to dress code wherein candidates were barred from wearing items including metal accessories, smart watches and even shoes. Apart from a few rare instances, candidates were largely seen following these guidelines.

A total of 164822 candidates out of the 231024 who had qualified for the exam on the basis of their JEE Main score, registered for JEE Advanced this year.

There were no reported incidents of any glitches and the computer based test went off smoothly. Students were issued instructions about the exam paper and sections in detail before the exam started. Most of the students felt that the tests were a bit lengthy questions were basic and conceptual in nature.

Optical response sheets (ORS) of the candidate will also be made available through email and through the applicant’s log-in account from May 22 onwards. To check the ORS, candidates may log-in to the applicant portal using their JEE Advanced registration number, date of birth, mobile number and email id.There is also provision to make challenges to the response sheets as well upon payment of Rs. 500 per challenge.

Exam authorities will release the answer key for both paper I and II on May 29. The answer keys are a vital component of the admission process as they contain the correct answers to the questions in the exam and will enable the candidate to calculate probable scores. If candidates have objections to any of the answer key (s), they can send in their complaints with the necessary evidence by May 30.

Declaration of result and counselling

The result of the entrance exam will be declared by IIT Kanpur on June 10. The result would include details like the total score and subject-wise score obtained by the candidate, as well as category and overall rank.

Importantly though to be included in the JEE Advanced rank list, candidates must score the minimum percentage of marks specified for each subject and also overall as per the category they belong to. For example, a candidate belonging to open category needs minimum 10% marks in each subject and 35% overall to be included in the rank list.

Based on the JEE Advanced ranks, a merit list will be drawn for shortlisting candidates for counselling and seat allotment. JoSAA is the body entrusted with conducting counselling for all such shortlisted candidate. In fact , the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) oversees the joint seat allocation for not only the IITsm, but also NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs.

JoSAA counselling schedule has not been announced yet, but it is expected registration for counselling will start around 2nd week of June.
