The Joint Entrance Examination - Advanced (JEE Advanced 2025) will be administered by the seven zonal coordinating IITs under the Joint Admission Board (JAB 2025). IIT Kanpur is responsible for conducting the JEE Advanced exam 2025 for the top 2.5 lakh JEE Main holders for IIT admissions. The JEE Main session 1 results 2025 will be declared on February 12. Candidates who get a rank among the top 2,50,000 in BE, BTech paper 1 will be eligible to apply for JEE Adv. The IIT Kanpur announced to commence the JEE Advanced registration on April 23.
On November 5, the board announced an additional attempt allowing students who appeared in 2023, 2024, and 2025 to take the JEE Advanced exam 2025. Two weeks later, on November 18, it reduced the number of attempt limits for JEE Advanced from three to two. By then, several students had dropped out of their BTech courses to attempt the IIT entrance exam for the third time.
Aspirants who were affected by the sudden U-turn to the two-attempt policy approached the Supreme Court to submit their grievances. The top court which heard the matter on January 10 allowed students who dropped out of BTech courses between November 5 and 18, dates on which JAB issued circulars on JEE Advanced eligibility criteria, to apply for the exam.
A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced for a maximum of two times in two consecutive years. This year, the Supreme Court has allowed candidates who dropped out from BTech courses from November 5 to 18 to appear in the JEE Adv exam.
As per the JEE Advanced eligibility criteria, students who appeared in the Class 12 board exam whose results were declared on or after June 28 will be eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2025 provided they fulfill other eligibility criteria.
“In case the examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) declared the results for the academic year 2022-23 before June 28, 2023, but the result of a particular candidate was withheld for whatever reason, then the candidate will not be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2025,” it added.
